A Hope Warrior
Stevens’ objective is to create a paradigm shift in relation to “treating cancer”. Steven says “It’s not just about ‘treating the cancer’ – through my experience I have learned that more focus needs to be placed on “healing the person and family” during the path to survival and recovery. There’s an in-balance, an asymmetry to the whole approach for treating cancer in general.” This shift will be accomplished through the form of Visual Art Therapy, which will reshape the public’s perception about the benefits and healing power, creativity and hope (through the use of Art) have on patients.
During his recovery Steven painted Art to help him with this disconnect, and he now wants to create a vehicle through which information, support and hope can be transferred among all cancer patients - so the process of healing the person and not just the cancer is achieved. The vehicle is the Patient Information Exchange Program that Steven is working on developing with iRSM and the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. After the model has been created and implemented, the goal is to present it on an international stage.
Help Raise $1,000,000 for Cancer Research & Collaboration
The Art of Hope, Energy and Survival Project was created by Steven Csorba with the goal to raise $1 Million dollars for Cancer Research through the sale of the Art that Steven created while undergoing cancer treatment. The type of Cancer Research that Steven is looking to raise money for is two fold:
-
He is looking to create a patient information exchange program,
-
Bring international awareness to the medical community of the healing power that Visual Arts can provide for cancer patients.
The funds raised from the project will be directed at developing a combined health care program that will bring together the benefits of the Arts in Medicine Program and the program currently being run at COMPRU. All proceeds from the sale of the Art will go towards forming this new program, as Steven’s goal is to create a model for patient information exchange, where the person, not just the cancer is treated. This program will give people battling cancer the resources and tools to improve their quality of life while battling cancer, and emerge not just survivors, but as stronger members of society.
The funds raised will be shared between COMPRU and the Alberta Cancer Foundation, with the intent of creating the collaborative patient information exchange program for cancer patients. Once this program has been developed and implemented, the goal is to present it on the global stage as the foundation for cancer patient survival.
Visual Arts Therapy
The Arts in Medicine Program helped Steven tap into inner resources and strengths. The program embraces life and healing through the self-empowering act of creativity and the aesthetic benefits of art. And from viewing Steven’s art, it’s obvious to see the boundless energy and symbolism of hope that the program helped develop.
Through the Art of Hope project, Steven is hoping to deliver these benefits to people, as the Art that Steven created during his defeat of cancer will be available to be purchased and to one of the hospitals under the Caritas or Capital Health management system. Through this purchase and donation process, the seeds of Hope that are imbedded in Steven’s Art, which helped him defeat his cancer, will be made available to others to help facilitate the Belief in Hope, Energy and Survival.
Accomplishing the Goal
Steven will accomplish the goal of raising $1 Million dollars through the sale of his art.
The Art of Hope, Energy & Survival $1 Million campaign, was launched at a showing of the originals which was held on Thursday, September 27, 2007, at the Peter Robertson Gallery. During this kick-off event, artist Steven Csorba and our honorary committee chair Dr. Johan Wolfaardt and other corporate sponsors, shared their complete vision for cancer research and the patient information exchange program. The art is now available for sale and participants will be encouraged to donate the art to healthcare facilities to help facilitate the benefits of Visual Art Therapy.
Further to this event, the campaign will be moving to other cities in North America to raise money and awareness for cancer research. If you are interested in joining Steven as a ‘Believer in Hope’, and would like to purchase one of the prints they can be viewed here.
